Property sleuth Graham Norwood creeps and crawls around England and France to find 10 picturesque homes draped in greenery.
Location: Wedmore, Guide price: £3.9m. This will make you green with envy. It is a Grade II listed Georgian house spectacularly covered with Virginia creeper. The property sits at the head of a tree-lined drive in private woodland. Inside the house is just as distinctive. There are Oriental and Indian wooden carvings plus nine bedrooms.
Location: East Ashling, Guide price: £799,000. This is a late 18th-century three-bedroom Grade II listed farmhouse. It has been extended, but is in need of modernisation. There is a large south-facing landscaped garden and the property is set in 17 acres of land within the South Downs National Park. This stunning house is covered in Virginia creeper and comes with paddocks and a tandem garage. Location: Côte d’Azur, Guide price: £8.2m. It is called Villa Flowers and is set in a leafy hillside not far from Monaco. But the real greenery is found on the inside – there is a “living wall”. This is an interior wall covered in natural growth, to bring nature a little closer to the owners. Typical weather in the region might mean you would prefer to be in the landscaped garden or the large private pool, though. Location: Wokingham, Guide price: £1.6m. This five-bedroom home has recently been modernised, but thankfully no one touched the ivy that covers the outside. The central farmhouse kitchen has exposed antique pine cabinets next to a split-level room leading to a sun terrace. Location: West Malling, Guide price: £697,000. Homes in this picturesque small town are normally a soft red colour, but this 15th-century property in a Conservation Area has foliage camouflage over its Georgian frontage. Inside there is an inglenook fireplace, plenty of timber beams, two spacious reception rooms and four bedrooms. Location: Carnforth, Guide price: £995,000. This 17th-century five-bedroom home has plenty of country character inside and out. The property is covered in swathes of wisteria. Inside there are timber beams, quarry tiled floors and two open fires. There is also a barn suitable for use as a home office, sitting in five acres of grounds. Location: Woodhouse Eaves, Guide price: £399,000. This cottage has so much greenery on its frontage that it has formed a hedge too. The property dates back to 1703 and is packed with original features including doors, an inglenook fireplace and exposed stone floors. There are three double bedrooms and a garage, too. Location: Opio, Guide price: £1.7m. Five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a pool plus a terrace, and views of the mountains. What more could you want? Well, maybe, a light covering of foliage to add to the property’s character. Location: Fitzrovia, Guide price: £2.9m. There is a green roof in this gated development in London’s Fitzrovia. The £2,000 service charge per property includes mowing too. The three-bedroom house for sale has two en suites and one bathroom, with stone and timber floors throughout. It also has what the estate agent describes as “highly sophisticated audio/visual packages”. This consists of mood lighting and concealed speakers throughout. Location: Exmouth, Guide price: £700,000. This three-bedroom house is stacked with environmentally friendly features. First, it has a sedum roof, so you can look down towards the beach as you mow the lawn. It also has a ground-source heat pump, rainwater harvesting and a biotech sewage treatment plant beneath the garden.
